Habits for a Healthier You!
Whether or not you're one to make New Year’s resolutions, any type of significant change in life forces you to develop certain (for-the-better) habits – whether that's in your career, personal life, or relationships.
Each new year I try to set a goal for myself. In years past, I set goals that are too large and not attainable. This year I am focusing on setting a new year goal that will be achievable and realistic. This 2017 I am going to really focus on growing my faith and continue living a healthy and fit life. Last year I focused on fitness in a different way. I focused on making fitness a way that was a coping mechanism for stress. This changed my life and made me feel so happy after a stressful day at work.
With that being said, what I want to talk about today is the four habits I'll be getting into starting the new year.
Eat More Greens
A huge part of this goal will be to be more prepared during the week and staying accountable with meal prepping. I have learned that greens make me feel more energized and overall healthier during the day, Eating at home and preparing my grocery list helps with my "green intake."
Y'all, if your goal is to lose weight like every other American in this world, y'all need to rethink your resolution. This is one of the top resolutions people make at the new year and they tend to fail. Instead of setting a goal to loose weight, consider making a goal to be more active and live an active lifestyle. Do you wonder what this looks like or how this will work for you? Well the best I can do is to say that works for me!
Every day I set out my workout clothes either for the morning or for after work. This keeps me accountable to live an active lifestlye. Sometimes I will even pack my gym bag in my car so I make myself go to the gym on my way home from work. Another way to live an active life is to consider your "gym time" as an appointment just like a doctors appointment. Schedule your workout time in your daily schedule just like you do at work. Consider this: you can't miss work just like you can't miss out on keeping an active life.
Keep in mind that your workouts should never take over your life. Workouts can be as easy as going for a walk, taking a class, or if your feeling really hyped up, go for some interval training, Just remember to take your rest days because your lifestyle should be considered active, not a life take over.
Practice (MORE) Gratitude
My seven ways of gratitude this New Year:
Get More Sleep
Sleeping is such an important thing to keep our bodies functioning and healthy. We tend to not sleep very much. Lovley ladies who work full time and manage their blogs- I know you feel me on this one. More often than not, I'm so exhausted at the end of a long day of teaching kindergarten - and then early the next morning, I have to do it all over again. I'm sure I can speak for most of y'all who are busy people who go go go. You have those nights where you think "If I go to bed now I will have plenty of sleeping time." Then you wake up and you feel even worse! For some of us seven hours is plenty of sleeping time, for others not so much. Knowing yourself is the best way to gauge how much sleep you truly need,
They say it takes 28 days to form a habit - and truly restorating sleep is one of the main habits I will be working on. Those occasional nights when I'm tossing and turning is inevitable for me, so having a cup of tea is the best remedy for this problem!
