Never would I have imaged PBS wanting me to write a story about what family and faith. I was beyond excited to have the honor to be published on PBS and in PBS articles/ books. Rumor has it they are making a book in 2021. Hopefully I will get a copy, that would be so cool… we shall see! On the blog, I am not going to rave about this opportunity I want to share, what it means to be a portrait of an American.
The first thing we think of as an American is freedom and the “American Dream.” Our world is crazy right now with politics and just a bunch of “messiness.” I am not one to share my personal opinions or thoughts on that topic, especially on my platform. It’s not “me.” What I can say is that as an American, we are all alike as we are different. As an American, we all have love to give. We all struggle. We all have a story to tell.
PBS asked me to write on family and faith. What an honor that was for them to think I portray family and faith in an inspiring way. In this post for PBS, I go in depth on what family looks like and the magic it brings. Family is a magical thing and I am so grateful to be the mother to my son, Corbin.
What family looks like…
Family is trust, compassion, love, and where your heart lives. It’s memories you create for a lifetime. Family is laughter and safety for your soul and heart. I like to think family being a life jacket in the stormy seas. As a mom, I want to create a home and family that making mistakes, says sorry, gives second chances, has fun, gives hugs and kisses, always forgives, prayers for each other, makes God their number one, a family that is patient and loves hard! That is my calling in life, as a mom.
Mom life, be like…
Motherhood is hard and it’s worth it all. Motherhood is a choice you make everyday to put someone else’s happiness and wellbeing ahead of yours. Being a mom means you teach hard lesson and do the right thing even when you’re not sure what the the right thing is… and to FORGIVE yourself over and over again, for doing something wrong. As a mom it’s easy to compare yourself to other moms and your kids to other kids. It’s not about who is the smartest, who’s house is the cleanest or who makes the best dinners. Motherhood is your OWN journey and your OWN children’s strengths and their OWN milestones. Motherhood is a special calling.
Being a mom and juggling parenting, teaching kindergarten and blogging is hard work. I get asked all the time through direct messages on Instagram, “how I do it all, how do I balance being a mom, teacher, wife, blogger and take care of myself?” Honestly, I don’t have an answer. After reflecting on those questions, I think I can do it all because God called me to be a mom, teacher and blogger. It’s what He had planned for me and I think that’s how I can make it work.
